Does Music Actually Change the Flow? A Look into Reiki and Sound
Can our Reiki flow can be influenced by music. Does it actually enhance the energy flow, or is it just a nice-to-have during sessions? To explore this, I put up a series of polls on Instagram to find out what other Reiki practitioners experience. I gathered all the results within a 24-hour period.
Methodology and Results
While 34 accounts engaged with the polls, I excluded my own answers and discounted 15 accounts that either didn’t answer all four questions or weren't practitioners.
Final Numbers: 18 Reiki practitioners were included
Master Level: 11
Level 2: 7
Level 1: 0
Result 1: Does Music Impact the Flow?
The results show a strong connection between sound and energy across both Master and Level 2 practitioners.
Master Level: 56% feel music impacts the flow.
Level 2: 71% feel music impacts the flow.
Key Finding: Overall, 61% of all practitioners believe music increases the flow of Reiki, while 22% feel it doesn't, and 17% think it might help a little. This suggests that while music isn't a requirement, it is a significant tool for the majority of practitioners.
Result 2: The Genre Effect
I wanted to know if the type of music mattered. I compared Reiki-specific tracks, Spa music, and Epic music.
Reiki Music: This was the clear leader. 67% of all levels feel this increases flow (64% of Masters and 71% of Level 2).
Spa Music: Only 6% overall felt this helped (9% of Masters and 0% of Level 2).
Epic Music: Interestingly, 0% of practitioners felt that epic music impacted their flow.
Other Music: 28% feel that other genres (outside of the standard healing categories) can increase their flow.
Result 3: Flow Without Intention
One of the most fascinating questions was whether music could trigger Reiki to flow without the practitioner's conscious intention, essentially, can music turn on Reiki for you?
Yes (Constant): 28% overall (36% of Masters vs. 14% of Level 2).
Sometimes: 39% overall. This was especially high for Level 2 practitioners at 57%.
No: 33% overall feel that music cannot make their Reiki flow without intent.
Interpretation: This suggests that for many, music can act as a trigger, sometimes starting the energy flow before the practitioner even consciously intends for it to happen.
Conclusion
The results of this poll suggest that while you don't need music to practise Reiki, it acts as a significant catalyst for most. Reiki-specific music is overwhelmingly preferred over generic spa or epic music. Perhaps most importantly, the data shows that music can even start the flow of energy without a formal intention.
