The Intuitive Channel: Do Practitioners Receive Guidance During Reiki?
When we step into the space of a Reiki session, we often talk about being a channel for energy. But does that channel come with a voice? I wanted to explore whether practitioners actually receive specific guidance while working and, if so, what that internal experience actually sounds like.
To find out, I ran an Instagram poll with our community to see how common intuitive guidance is during sessions.
Methodology and Results
A total of 31 accounts engaged with the poll. To keep the data as clean as possible, I excluded my own responses and narrowed the pool down to only those who answered all four questions.
Final Numbers: 17 Reiki practitioners were included
Master Level: 14
Level 2: 3
Result 1: What Kind of Guidance is Given?
It turns out that for the vast majority of practitioners, the session isn’t just silent energy work.
Where to Work: 59% of practitioners across both levels receive specific advice on where to work on a client’s body during a session.
Client Insights: 29% receive guidance or tips specifically about the client and their life.
Personal Notes: 6% actually receive guidance for their own personal lives while they are treating someone else.
No Guidance: Only 6% of practitioners reported receiving no guidance at all during their sessions.
Key Finding: Over 90% of the practitioners surveyed receive some form of intuitive information, mostly focused on the needs of the client.
Result 2: How is the Guidance Received?
I wanted to know if this guidance arrived as an internal monologue, a visual, or an external-sounding voice.
The Internal Monologue: 53% hear guidance in their own voice. This was particularly dominant among Level 2 practitioners, with 100% of them reporting this experience.
The Visual Learner: 29% of practitioners don’t hear a voice at all; instead, they receive guidance in a visual form.
A Different Voice: Only 6% hear the guidance in a voice that sounds different from their own.
No Narrative: 12% reported receiving no specific auditory or visual guidance.
Result 3: When Does the Guidance Happen?
Does the guidance only activate when we are the ones channeling the energy?
The Dual Channel: 47% of practitioners receive guidance both when they are giving Reiki and when they are receiving it from someone else.
The Active Channel: 41% only hear guidance when they are actively giving a session.
Receivers Only: 0% of the practitioners polled receive guidance only when they are being treated.
Interpretation
The data suggests that for most of us, Reiki is a two-way street of energy and information. Whether it’s your own voice indicating to work on a client's shoulder or a visual image, this guidance is a standard part of the practitioner experience. Interestingly, the fact that most hear their own voice suggests that Reiki may be filtering through our own subconscious but without further research this can not be concluded.
